Yipsi Moreno will receive the Beijing 2008 Olympic gold medalHavana.- The confirmation that hammer thrower Yipsi Moreno will receive the Beijing 2008 Olympic gold medal is one of the nice news reported by Cuban athletics in 2016.

After the doping of Belarusian Aksana Miankova, Moreno will be proclaimed Olympic champion in the women´s hammer throw event, so Cuba will add its 78th gold medal in Olympics.

Athletics: Lescay’s 43.6 Seconds in the 4×400

Lescay (center) turned in an outstanding time in the last stretch of the 4X400 relay in Río de Janeiro. Among the successes of Cuban athletics in the Río de Janeiro Summer Games, some of the least noted are the individual performances of the 4x400m men's relay team members.

The team's unquestionable accomplishment was given its rightful place - a 2:59.53 time, equivalent to 1,199 points on the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) scoring charts.

Durand, with her guide Yunior Kindelan, scored time of 11.58 seconds in the first qualifying roundHavana.- Cuban sprinter Omara Durand set a Paralympic record in the women´s T12 100m in the qualifying heats of the athletics tournament corresponding to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games.

According to the official site of the contest, Durand, with her guide Yunior Kindelan, scored time of 11.58 seconds in the first qualifying round, and thus she advanced to the semifinals to take place tomorrow.

Cuban Lezcay Wins 400 Meters in Ibero-American Athletics Championships

Lezcay scored his season best (45.36 s)Havana.- Cuban Yoandys Lescay made headlines in the Rio 2016 Ibero-American Athletics Championships when beating in the men's 400m final the Olympic runner-up Luguelín Santos in a day where the Cuban men's 4x100 relay scored 38.44 seconds in semifinals and virtually qualified to the Olympics.

Lescay, 22 and runner-up of the Veracruz-2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, scored his season best (45.36 s), giving the luxury to beat the Dominican star on the final stretch, where he is one of the "monsters" worldwide.
