  One always wants more, that is logical. We longed for that first position, I think that we thought more of them than of us, because we saw them fighting with their hearts in every game in every move. From the very first game, they gave everything, as if it were the last one and we have to acknowledge that. 


That's why we welcomed them with great joy when they returned from Sancti Spíritus, where they did so great that people will talk about it for a long time. Even when it is true that many Cuban fans of baseball do not like Víctor Mesa because of his temper, the matanceros forgave all his impulses and even a couple of bad decision because, undoubtedly, we owe him all these emotions.

Leinier Domínguez: Grand Prix Title, Most Important of his Career

Cuban Grand Master Leinier Domínguez described his recent victory in the Chess Grand Prix in Thessaloniki, Greece, as the most important of his career.

"I am very happy with the victory, no doubt the most important of my career, but mostly, I am very happy with the way chess lovers and in general the Cuban people followed my performance," the best chess player in Latin America told the press moments after his arrival in Cuba.

Cubans Win Gold, Silver and Bronze at Journalists Sports Games

Cuban athletes won their first medals in track and field events at the First Sports Games for AIPS America journalists, being held in this northern Colombian city.

Cuba won two gold medals, four silvers and two bronzes in the 50, 200 and 800 meter races, as well as in the long jump.

Cubans Omany Torres and Dayan Garcia won in the 800 meters and long jump in the under-35 category.

For their part, Garcia, Rafael Azuaga, Carlos Alberto González and Duber Piñeiro took silver in the 50 and 200 meters. Garcia and Piñeiro in the 50 (under-35), Azuaga in the 35-50 category, and Gonzalez in the over 50.

Bolt will be Absent in Jamaican Championships

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt ruled out his participation in the 200 meters in the Tournament of Kingston, the capital of the country, due to a slight hamstring strain, organizers announced today.

This would be the first competition of Bolt, world record holder and Olympic multichampion in the 100 and 200 meter dash, with his compatriots Warren Weir, bronze in the 2012 London Games, and Nickel Ashmeade, in addition to the runner from the United States Wallace Spearmon as adversaries.

"I am disappointed to miss the Kingston meet (May 4) as I love running in front of my home crowd in Jamaica, he wrote in his personal website.

Cycling Tour in Cuba in Solidarity With Cuban 5

Havana, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) A group of young people carries out a cycling tour of Cuba in defense of the five antiterrorist fighters of the Caribbean island unjustly held in the United States, the national press releases today.

The tour, started in Punta de Maisi, in the easternmost Cuban region, is included among the actions to demand the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, detained in 1998 for monitoring terrorist groups that from Miami prepare actions against their country.

The cyclists, five young people from the eastern Guantanamo province, expect during his tour to visit historical and educational sites.

Cuba: The Fourth Time Is to Win in Baseball Against Japan

Fukuoka, Japan, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) Victor Mesa, manager of the Cuban team representing the Caribbean island in the 3rd World Baseball Classic, chose to use a strategy based on the minimum effort in the use of his pitchers, to get a smashing victory over Japan and so to brake the Japanese curse in the World Baseball Classics.

"There are always satisfactions with a victory, joy and the certainty that things have gone all right. It's pleasant to know that we are leading Pool (Group) A in Fukuoka. Now we are ready to go forward and go to Tokyo to keep on winning," Victor Mesa stated.

In an interview to Prensa Latina, Mesa added that the progress of the Cuban team's players is every time more eloquent.

Baseball: Cuban Pitchers Improve in Victory Over Japan

Osaka, Japan, Feb 27 (PL) After several uncertain performances, the Cuban relief pitchers managed to drive the baseball team to a victory 3-2 against the Hanshin Tigers, in a warm up match before the World Classic III.

Good works of Yander Guevara, the veteran southpaw Norberto Gonzalez, the eventual winner, and the fast Vladimir Garcia fast, let Victor Mesa's team arrive at safe harbor against the Japanese professional box.

Just the night before, the Hanshin Tigers beat the Japanese squad that will participate in the Classic 1-0, which increased the atmosphere of doubt and skepticism about the prospects of the premises.
