Cuba to Attend Cycling World Cup in Mexico
Cuba will take part with five cyclists in the third phase of the World Track Cycling Cup, from January 17 to 19 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, confirmed the Cuban Cycling Federation in the Caribbean island Thursday.In statements to the press, Héctor Ruiz, technical director of the Antillean organization, saidd that former World Champion Lisandra Guerra leads the quintet, followed by Yudelmis Aryan Domínguez, Arlenys Sierra, Marlies Mejías and Juan Carlos Arias.
Guerra, 25 years old, has three medals, one of each color in World Championships in the 500 counterclock meters race, as well as several medals in World Cups circuits.
The outstanding Cuban cyclist competed in the initial phase of the Cup, in last October in Cali, Colombia, without reaching a medal.
After ending the Mexican event, the Cuban cyclists will make a training base in Mexico, next to other figures of the island that will be added, looking for the best shape for the Pan-American Championship, scheduled for next February in the Mexican city of Puebla.
