Outstanding New Baseball Figure in Las Tunas
Las Tunas.- In the small Mexican town of Parral, baseball is an everyday thing. It is a passion that is discussed in the eternal dilemma of a nation divided by sweeping soccer fever and the tradition of the sport of baseball.
Maybe that doubles the merit of a young baseball player, who aroused the interest of the folks in Parral. In a game against Argentina on August 18 he hit one of the most dramatic home runs in the first Under-15 Baseball World Championship.
Over a month later, Angel Hechavarria, assistant trainer of the team which finally took the silver medals, told us that in the first inning of the game, a stunned crowd watched the ball fly about 425 feet down the center of the Parral Grand Stadium.
