Sancti Spiritus’s Yangaliny to London 2012 Paralympics

Judo athlete Yangaliny Jiménez is Sancti Spiritus’s only representative in the London 2012 Paralympic Games, to take place from August 29th to September 9th.

Jimenez will try to mount the winners’ podium in the +100 kg division, so as to improve his first Olympic participation, when he won no medal at all in Beijing 2008.

Prior to the London event, he attended the training sessions in Glasgow, Escocia, along with the other members of the judo squad.

Yangaliny won the gold medal in France 2006 World Championship for disabled people, and silver in the Sao Paulo 2007 World Championship. He also was awarded the gold medal in the Brasil’s Rio de Janeiro 2007 Parapan American Games, as well as in Guadalajara’s 2011. This granted him the ticket to London.

Cuba will be represented in the 2012 Paralympics by 25 athletes in six sports: athletics (12), judo (7), swimming (2), weight-lifting (2), cycling (1), and shooting (1).
